Ke$ha Holds Atop Hot 100, Pink Glows with 'Glitter'

by Silvio Pietroluongo, N.Y. | February 11, 2010 11:00 EST

Ke$ha claims the longest running No. 1 debut single by a female artist on the Billboard Hot 100 since 1977 as "TiK ToK" holds steady for an eighth week. 33 years ago, Debby Boone took her maiden Hot 100 appearance, "You Light Up My Life" to No. 1 for 10 weeks.

Many artists parlay Grammy appearances and/or award victories into chart wins, including the Black Eyed Peas, who move to No. 1 on Digital Songs and 4-2 on the Hot 100 with "Imma Be." The song moves 236,000 downloads (up 33%) to become the act's fifth No. 1 on the digital list, the most by a group in the chart's five year history. In addition, the Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" rebounds 16-9 on the Hot 100, the song's 22nd week in the top 10.

Lady Antebellum becomes the first country group to hit the top three of the Hot 100 since Lonestar reached No. 1 with "Amazed" in March of 2000 as "Need You Now" leaps 8-3 as the chart's Digital Gainer. With an increase of 90,000 downloads (up 74% to 212,000), the title moves into the runner-up slot on Digital Songs (8-2).

An astonishing Grammy performance by Pink lands her the Hot Shot Debut, as "Glitter in the Air" arrives at No. 18 thanks to digital sales of 114,000, a gain of 1,143%.

"Glitter" is the fifth charting single from Pink's fifth studio album "Funhouse," which is the most she's ever scored on the Hot 100 from one set. The song was immediately delivered digitally to radio as a new single by Jive Records before the Grammy broadcast was even over.

Other notable Grammy-related debuts come from Dave Matthews Band, at No. 57 with "You and Me," and the award show pairing of Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli, at No. 75 with "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

The Dave Matthews Band track is the second Hot 100 single from "Big Whiskey & the Groogrux King," the first time the group has scored a pair of charting titles from an album since 2001's "Everyday."

Blige and Bocelli's version of the Simon & Garfunkel No. 1 hit from 1970 is a contrast in chart appearances. For the queen of R&B, the song is her 39th to grace the Hot 100, while the renowned tenor reaches the list for the first time.

Lil Wayne takes part in four of this week's debuts, three songs on which he's the lead vocalist and one where he guest stars. Wayne ups his chart total to 54 titles since 2000 (and 55 overall), extending his lead for most charting titles since the beginning of the last decade, well ahead of the next closest challenger, Jay-Z, who has 44.

Two of Wayne's tracks, "Knockout" (No. 44) and "American Star," featuring Shanell, (No. 91) are from his Billboard 200 No. 2 debuting album "Rebirth," while "F**k Today" is a digital single made available concurrent with his album release. Wayne is also featured, along with Birdman and Jay Sean, on Kevin Rudolf's "I Made It (Cash Money Heroes)" which enters at No. 59.

Going back to this week's Hot 100 top 10, Young Money falls one spot to No. 4 with "Bedrock," Lady Gaga falls 2-5 with "Bad Romance" and "Sexy Chick" by David Guetta featuring Akon slips 5-6.

Train pulls up two spots to No. 7 with "Hey, Soul Sister" and Ludacris drops two with "How Low" (6-8). Iyaz clings to a top 10 spot (7-10) with his former No. 2 hit, "Replay."

Timbaland and Drake's "Say Something" is the chart's Airplay Gainer, improving by 8.6 million listener impressions, and climbing 46-36.
