Black Eyed Peas Hold Top Spot On Hot 100

Jay Sean gains big on the Hot 100.

The Black Eyed Peas sit at No. 1 on this week's Hot 100 yet again are with "I Gotta Feeling," extending the group's unprecedent run at the top of the chart to 21 weeks.

Elsewhere on the chart, "Down," by Jay Sean featuring Lil Wayne, rises 7-3 thanks to a radio audience gain of 24%. Virginia quintet Parachute soars 98-67 with "She Is Love," thanks to a 74% spike in downloads of the tune (29,000 this week).

Newcomer Jason DeRulo is going strong at radio and digital, with "Whatcha Say" climbing 54-24 in its second week on the Hot 100. The song scored an increase in downloads of 55%, with 60,000 for the week, and gained a whopping 45% in radio audience. DeRulo's self-titled debut album is due in October and he will be appearing as himself in the MTV movie "Turn The Beat Around," set to air on the network in early 2010.

The rest of the top 10 mostly holds steady with Miley Cyrus' "Party In the U.S.A." at No. 2, Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" at No. 4. Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West's "Run This Town" falls 3-5, Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" falls 5-6, Drake's "Best I Ever Had" drops 6-7, Keri Hilson featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo's "Knock You Down" holds at No. 8, Cobra Starship featuring Leighton Meester's "Good Girls Go Bad" remains at No. 9, and Pitbull's "Hotel Room Service" stays at No. 10.

Holding the No. 11 spot once again this week is Mariah Carey's "Obsessed," which also becomes Carey's record-extending 23rd top 10 on Hot 100 Airplay.

Justin Moore's debut single, "Small Town USA," inches up 52-51 this week, as the track also moves up 8-7 on Hot Country Songs. Moore's self-titled album recently debuted in the top 10 last week on the Billboard 200.

This week's Hot Shot Debut on the Hot 100 is Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews' "I'm Alive," at No. 90. It's the third charting single from Chesney's chart-topping "Lucky Old Sun."

In other chart news, Jason Aldean ropes his third No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart as "Big Green Tractor" jumps 3-1 on the tally this week. The rise gives Aldean back-to-back toppers, following "She's Country," which spent one week at No.1 on May 16.

Kristine W. notches her 14th No. 1 on the Hot Dance Club Play Songs chart with "Be Alright." The pop/dance diva has an incredible track record on the tally -- 14 out of her 15 chart entries have hit the top. Kristine W. is now tied with Mariah Carey for the third-most Club No. 1s among women. In the lead is Madonna with 39 while Janet Jackson is in second-place with 18.

Bolt says he wants to try long jump

ZURICH -- It may be time to extend those sand pits because Usain Bolt is considering the long jump.

The Jamaican sprint star said Thursday he would like to try the long jump some day.

If Bolt comes close to the standards he has set in the sprints, the world record of 8.95 meters could be in danger some day, although he said the addition of a new event to his schedule was not around the corner. Mike Powell's world record has stood since 1991.

"I definitely want to try the long jump, I think I can be a good long jumper," Bolt said Thursday, on the eve of the Weltklasse Golden League meet in Zurich. "I've messed around with it. I think I'd be good. I think I'd have a good distance, just looking at it."

Although Bolt said he has never measured his leaps, the 23-year-old sprinter who shattered world records in the 100 and 200 meters at the world championships did not put a timetable on his long jumping career.

"Maybe when the races start getting tighter, closer," Bolt said.

While not ruling out that he might compete in the long jump at the 2012 Olympics in London, Bolt cautioned that it was still just his own idea.

"I haven't discussed it with my coach," said Bolt, who added that running the 400 was not in his plans. "I want to try it [the long jump] before I retire."

That could be some time off. Bolt slashed .11 seconds off his world record in both the 100 and 200 this month in Berlin, winning overwhelmingly. He clocked 9.58 in the 100 and 19.19 in the 200 to improve the times he set in winning gold medals at last year's Beijing Olympics.

Bolt said he was surprised by how quickly he ran the 200 in Berlin.

"The fans were pretty much looking for one [world record] because I also did it in Beijing, so I said what the heck, let's go for it," Bolt said. "But I was surprised at how good it was."

Bolt said he was a little tired after Berlin but that he still may have "three good" races in him. He would not speculate about Friday's 100-meter event in Zurich, where he will face off against former world-record holder and Jamaican teammate Asafa Powell, the bronze medalist in Berlin.

Bolt earlier made a public appearance at Zurich's main railway station, stepping out of a black limousine to rapturous applause from about 3,000 flag-waving fans.

Dressed in a dark-blue T-shirt, jeans and white sneakers, Bolt spent about an hour signing autographs before putting in a brief DJ performance for the crowd.

The Jamaican didn't race. That job fell to a life-size cardboard cutout, which sped 50 meters along a rail at Bolt-speed. Attempts by fans to keep up -- even on a bicycle -- all failed.

"It was good. I am surprised how many people came," Bolt said. "The crowds are getting bigger."

The Weltklasse meet at the Letzigrund stadium is the fifth of six Golden League events, with four athletes still in the running for the $1 million jackpot -- Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia, the 5,000 and 10,000 world champion in Berlin, plus three women, 100-meter sprinter Kerron Stewart of Jamaica, Sanya Richards of the United States in the 400 and Yelena Isinbayeva in the pole vault. The jackpot goes to athletes who win their event at all six meets.

Isinbayeva is looking for redemption in Zurich after a no-height performance in Berlin that saw her lose her world title.

The Zurich meet has drawn 16 champions from Berlin and 14 gold medalists from Beijing.

Miley Cyrus, Jay-Z Make Noise On Hot 100

Two records break and Miley Cyrus and Jay-Z make noise on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

As reported yesterday, the Black Eyed Peas break the record for the longest No. 1 stay for an act on the chart, with current chart topper "I Gotta Feeling" and previous No. 1 "Boom Boom Pow" dominating for a combined 20 weeks. That breaks Usher's record from 2004, when "Yeah!" and "Burn" were No. 1 for a total of 19 consecutive weeks.

Jason Mraz is this week's other record breaker, with "I'm Yours" notching its 70th week on the Hot 100. Thanks to 4.4 million total downloads and airplay on top 40, adult top 40, adult contemporary and triple A radio, "I'm Yours" beats LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live" for the song with the longest life on the Hot 100.

Crashing the party is Miley Cyrus with "Party In The U.S.A.," which debuts at No. 2 for her best-ever ranking on the chart. The song, which previews Cyrus' Walmart exclusive CD "The Time of our Lives," due Aug. 31, also opens at No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs with 226,000 downloads.

Following Cyrus at No. 3 is Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West's "Run This Town." The song from Jay-Z's upcoming "The Blueprint 3" album moves 169,000 downloads in its first week of release and takes the Hot 100's fifth-biggest leap of the year (66-3). The trio is slated to perform "Run This Town" on the inaugural episode of "The Jay Leno Show" Sept. 14.

Elsewhere in the top 10, Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" drops 2-4, Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" holds at No. 5, Drake's "Best I Ever Had" falls 3-6, and Jay Sean (featuring Lil Wayne) falls "Down" from No. 6 to No. 7. Keri Hilson "Knock You Down" featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo slips 4-8, Cobra Starship feat. Leighton Meester's "Good Girls Go Bad" falls 7-9, and Pitbull's "Hotel Room Service" drops 9-10.

Disney supergroup "Disney's Friends For Change," which includes the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez, debuts at No. 20 with "Send It On." Net proceeds from the digital release (88,000 downloads this week) will go to environmental charities through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund.

Jason DeRulo's "Whatcha Say" enters the Hot 100 at No. 54, and dance artist Cascada's "Evacuate the Dance Floor" comes in at No. 80.

Britney Spears' "Radar," which is both a track on her 2007 "Blackout" album and a single from her 2008 album "Circus," is new to the Hot 100 at No. 90. "Radar" gives Spears the most Hot 100 songs from one of her albums.

Black Eyed Peas make chart history

Black Eyed Peas set record for most weeks at No. 1

NEW YORK (AP) -- Will.i.am would love to say "I told you so" to all the people who have bashed The Black Eyed Peas in the past, but he won't — even though the group just made history on the Billboard charts.

"There's a part of me that wants to be cocky, but then I can't be cocky," the 34-year-old Peas leader said in a phone interview from Los Angeles on Tuesday. "There's a part of me that wants to call out all of my other peers and competitors. I don't want to say no names because I'm not like that, but part of me wants to do that. And would it be wrong if I did that? Yes it would. I'm not like that."

This week the foursome, who have had their share of critics, will have topped Billboard's Hot 100 singles charts for 20 consecutive weeks, the most ever by an act. "Boom Boom Pow" and the song that dislodged it, "I Gotta Feeling," have been at the top of the charts for 12 and eight weeks, respectively.

Though the band has had big hits over the years, "Boom Boom Pow" was their first No. 1 single. Will.i.am says he's surprised how successful the song became.

"I knew that `Boom Boom Pow' would be big in the clubs, but I didn't know it would be that potent with the world, outside of the club. So that my accountant's aunt would be like: Black Eyed Peas, I love `Boom Boom Pow!'" he laughed. "I didn't know it was going to be that. I didn't know that teachers would say I like `Boom Boom Pow.'"

But the success is not pure luck, will.i.am explains. Though he says the band didn't listen to the radio when creating their latest disc, "The E.N.D.," he says they did heavy research by partying at underground nightclubs and events.

They chose "Boom Boom Pow" as the first single after the response it got when they debuted it at a Grammy party this year. After its success, they used the same idea for their current hit.

"When I picked up `I Gotta Feeling' we tested in the clubs, looked at people, how they responded to a song they didn't know. We're looking at what's the best summer song out of all the songs, let's go out there and have a party," he explained.

So they had a party. And the response was great.

He says the group will use the same strategy for the third single, the groovy "Meet Me Halfway."

"We kept in mind when it would be coming out: It'll be out for the holidays. Do we want to be jam-pack smacking people high octane in the club during Christmas? No. So let's know that the emotion we want to get out there is still melodic, a love subject would be cool around Christmas and we still want to be in the club," he said.

Will.i.am says he's not sure how to take it all in.

"Like how am I supposed to take this and soak this in? If these people like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson have these No.1s, but yet we just broke a record, how am I supposed to take that because we came from the under, under, underground," he said.

If our interview with Brandi C., taught me one thing, it’s that she’s not a dumb blonde. In fact, she isn’t a blonde at all: that’s a wig, baby. Just kidding: the titmouse-voiced bombshell is a lot better spoken than you might suspect after seeing her girlish antics on Rock of Love. After the jump, Brandi dishes dirt on what really went down on the house, talks about her temporarily disfiguring car accident, reveals why The Secret method doesn’t work so well on reality TV and gives us the lowdown on the X-rated turn her career took after Rock of Love.

You seemed really upset when you were eliminated.

Well, I was kinda shocked about it. I was upset about leaving Bret and I was upset about leaving Heather and Lacey. I didn’t think [Kristia and I] would leave so soon. When she was gone, I was like, OK, well, at least I can focus on the task at hand now. But I only got one more date and it was like, “Sorry, bye.”

When Bret was talking about his reason for eliminating you, he said that he thought your relationship was based solely on sex. Did you agree?

I think he was saying that the extent of our relationship would be a sexual one. I think ultimately was that he was saying that he was there to find this one person, this one love, and I was offering what he was before. Like, “Hey let’s go get some vodka and some girls and have a party.” I think he was looking to change his ways, and with me in the house, he wasn’t going to get that done.

It seems a little strange to decide that at the end of the episode that featured what looked like a foursome between you, Bret, Heather and Lacey earlier.

Yeah. (Laughs)

What’s your story as far as that goes?

Eh…forever a mystery. There’s other people involved, so it’s not our place to talk about it. If it was just me and someone else, it still wouldn’t be good, but at least I could talk for myself. But four people are involved, so you don’t want to just blab their business.

But it’s safe to say your time in the house was wild, right? Was partying at that level normal for you?

It was me times 10. I’ll go out but I don’t go out every night and drink everyday. You know, I used to work at a restaurant and I go to massage school, so I’m not partying every day and night. Being this was like a vacation. The vibe was like, “Whoo hoo. Let’s go crazy.”

You referred to Bret as your “boyfriend” a few times. Was that strategy?

It was kind of like wishful thinking. The whole positive thinking thing…if you say things, they’ll come true…

Like The Secret?

Yes, kinda like The Secret. But it was kind of strategy in a way. None of the other girls called him their boyfriend, so I figured to them it was maybe kind of intimidating.

There seemed to be a few girls that you didn’t get along with. There’s VSPOT footage of you fighting with Magdalena.

Yeah, she’s retarded. That girl…you know, what’s funny? In the house, I didn’t think she looked or acted mannish at all. It wasn’t until I watched the show on TV that I saw it. I don’t like the girl, but in real life, she doesn’t seem like a she-male at all. But the reason for that fight, the reason I was so angry was she had been sleeping in her room and she came down 40 minutes after I went in her room. She had put on a dress and a full face of makeup and did her hair to come downstairs and yell at me. It’s like, “Are you kidding?” If I was genuinely mad about you waking me up, I would have just walked out and been like, “Stop.” She went to all that trouble to get camera-ready to yell at me.

How was it living with Erin after the meth-scratched face/circus-t**s fight?

Erin approached me about it and said she was sorry because she didn’t know what had happened to my face, and I told her I was sorry because it was mean to call her “Circus T**s.” So we both apologized and basically agreed to not like really each other. It was good, we both took the high road. She was cool about it.

That car accident you were in happened last year?

Yeah, last June. I had a designated driver, that’s the best part. He was sober, I was the passenger. I wasn’t drunk-drunk, but I had been at a party. He was turning left on a winding road. We were in a VW Beatle and this Ford Expedition, this huge gigantic SUV, didn’t see us and just plowed into my passenger-side door. I was knocked unconscious for I don’t know how long. I didn’t see my face for two days, but everyone who would come see me was just freaked out. I had to have surgery, get glass removed, have 47 stitches to hold my cheek together. It was just really traumatic. When I was on the show, I was in the process of getting microderm abrasion to fix the scars. I think I had had my second one at that point. It’s still kind of there now, after five treatments.

I thought it was interesting that you referred to it as a disability.

Oh. I was exampling that. Erin could have made fun of anything else about me, but not something I had no control over. I wasn’t saying that it was a disability, but that it was like a disability. Like, she went to a doctor and paid money to have her boobs look like that. She said, “I want them this big.” Like, go ahead and make fun of my boobs, because I paid to look that way.

I thought it was funny when you said that your boobs were the best birthday present your parents bought you last year. That’s an interesting present to receive from your parents.

It’s kind of just a situation where I know how to get things out of my mom. I just manipulated the situation for a good three weeks. I begged: “Please. I’ll do this many chores.” Or “I’ll go back to your house and watch the dog.” I definitely had to work for them.

When you said on the first episode that only two girls in the house had natural boobs, were you exaggerating or was that scientific data?

No, there’s hardly any that had natural boobs. I know Jes did. I think Brandi M., had natural boobs, maybe? Mia did.

I liked when Bret handed you the acoustic guitar and you smelled it.

I was reading! You know how inside guitars, there’s that piece of paper. There’s something that says, I don’t know, the numbers of it. I was trying to read that.

I have to be honest and say that you’re a lot better spoken than I expected you to be.

Yeah. I’m actually smart. I’m really silly, too. It’s a balance. I am smart, I know how to construct sentences. I have a good conception of the real world. But I also have my silly moments, because I think you gotta. You gotta make life fun. But what I think they did was take every silly moment and glue those together, and that’s what you see on the show. It’s not a misrepresentation, it is me, but you’re not seeing the balance of me being normal.

And you’re cool with that?

Oh yeah, I love it. I watch the show with my roommate and friends, and we just crack up. Like, rolling on the floor laughing. If I wasn’t on this show and I knew no one, I would still be mad obsessed with it.

How do people treat you based on the show? Do they think you’re a dumb blonde? Are they disrespectful?

Face-to-face, people are great. I guess when you’re in front of someone, they give you more of a chance. I try not to go on the message boards. Even though these are people who have time to write bad things about people they don’t know, which kind of freaks me out, if you read enough of those, it’s gonna get you down. But I’ve read a couple, just to get an idea. I love when people are like, “They’re whores and they’re crazy.” And it’s like, look at the guy we’re competing for. If I was there competing for a priest, I could see the outrage. We’re trying to get Bret Michaels – of course we’re going to be just as wild as he is.

I read that you considered going on Flavor of Love.

Yeah. I loved the concept, and it really looked like they had so much fun. But then I was like, “Well, I don’t really like Flavor Flav like that.” And I can’t pretend. I’d have to be really attracted to the person. And another thing is that those girls would just rip me apart.

Some of the girls on Rock of Love seem pretty tough. Like, I’m kinda scared of Heather.

I think if you got on her bad side, yeah. But somehow she and I clicked. We clicked on Kristia’s last day. Lacey, too. I love those girls.

I guess one upside to your elimination was that it meant you could be reunited with your cat.

Cat lovers will understand that comment. My cat is unlike any other cat in the world. People who hate cats come to my house, meet my cat and say, “I like this cat.” She’s a person. She’s not really a cat. She’s just like any other girl.

Did you go to college?

I did for a little bit. I went to community college in Tampa for a few years, but I didn’t really like it. My parents told me to finish two years, though, so I did. I did that and then the whole Universal Studios gig came up. [Brandi used to work as Marilyn Monroe and other famous characters at the theme park.] When you’re dressed up as Marilyn Monroe, those kids don’t know you aren’t her. I moved to New York for a bit, but it was so fast-paced and winter I can’t take. But then I moved out here to L.A., it was the first time in my life where I felt at home.

And then there was the porn thing. The trajectory was the most interesting thing, because unlike some people, you didn’t have porn in your past when you did this show – it was in your future.

I wanted to try it. There are so many porn stars here and it’s not even a big deal in California to have that as your career. It’s just kinda like, “Oh cool. You do porn? That’s awesome.” I have a couple of girlfriends who do it and I was just kinda bored and coming off the whole crazy ride of that show. I was like, “Well, let me try it out and see if it’s something that I like.” I tried it out and thought it was fun, but not for me. Not everyday. I kinda live my life like I don’t want to have any regrets. So I’m not regretting doing something once. My family’s very supportive. They all knew about it. They didn’t watch, but they knew.

So it wasn’t a bad experience, right?

No, not at all. It was just something that was like, “All right. Been there, done that.”

It’s sort of amazing that you were able to leave like that. A lot of people get sucked in…in more ways than one, I guess.

I have that kind of personality. I try something, I feel it out and wonder, “Is this what I’m meant to be doing?” No, there’s more out there for me. But hey, at least I got it out of my system. The girl in it was my good friend.

And you can say for sure that you’ll never do it again?

Ninety-nine percent sure. I could say, “Oh, I’ll never join the circus,” but hey, you never know.
