Katy Perry Makes Hot 100 History: Ties Michael Jackson's Record
Katy Perry becomes the first woman, and second artist overall following Michael Jackson, in the 53-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to send five songs from an album to No. 1, as "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" becomes the fifth chart leader from her Capitol Records set "Teenage Dream."
The historic Hot 100 coronation follows the album's prior No. 1s "California Gurls" (featuring Snoop Dogg), the lead single from "Teenage Dream,"; the title cut; "Firework"; and, "E.T." (featuring Kanye West). The set bowed atop the Billboard 200 album chart dated Sept. 11, 2010, and has sold 1.7 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

"Hitting No. 1 is always a great moment, but when it turns into a small piece of history, you're reminded of how many millions of people are connected to each other by even one tiny event," she tells Billboard in anexclusive statement. "Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. Ever since I was 9 years old, singing into my hairbrush, I've dreamed very big dreams, but today is bigger than my dreams. What a nice first birthday present for 'Teenage Dream'!"
While Perry is the first woman to achieve the honor, she is the second artist to manage the feat after Jackson. The late King of Pop sent five songs to No. 1 on the Hot 100 from "Bad" in 1987-88: "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" (with Siedah Garrett); the title track; "The Way You Make Me Feel"; "Man in the Mirror"; and, "Dirty Diana."

Jackson notched his quintet of No. 1s from "Bad" over nine months and two weeks. Perry's five toppers from "Dream" spans one year, two months and one week, dating to the first week at No. 1 for "Gurls" on the Hot 100 dated June 19, 2010. (The newest Hot 100 is dated Aug. 27, 2011).
While Jackson earned the achievement more quickly, Perry has spent more time atop the Hot 100 in each artist's respective commanding stretch: Jackson's five No. 1s from "Bad" totaled a combined seven weeks in charge. With the first week on top for "Friday," Perry is up to 18 total weeks at No. 1 with her No. 1s from "Dream."

Following "Gurls," which reigned atop the Hot 100 for six weeks, the title song from "Dream" began a two-week command on the chart dated Sept. 18, 2010. "Firework" spent four weeks at No. 1 beginning Dec. 18, 2010, and "E.T." landed at the apex for five weeks starting April 9, 2011.
Perry's streak of five Hot 100 No. 1 singles promoted to radio is the most by a lead artist since Mariah Carey scored a similar run in 1990-91. Whitney Houston holds the chart record with seven consecutive leaders in 1985-88.
Additionally highlighting Perry's stretch of dominance, she has inhabited the Hot 100's top 10 for an unprecedented 66 consecutive weeks, dating to the arrival of "Gurls." Perry shattered the prior mark of 48 straight frames in the top 10, set by Ace of Base in 1993-94.
"Friday" takes over the Hot 100 summit by spending a second week atop Radio Songs, registering 148 million in all-format audience (up 1%), according to Nielsen BDS. The song rebounds 5-4 on Digital Songs with 156,000 downloads sold (up 14%), according to SoundScan.
Katy's 'Last Friday' Remix Featuring Missy Elliott: Listen
Capitol last week released a remix of "Friday" featuring Missy Elliott. The remix accounted for 25% of the song's overall digital sales in the Aug. 8-14 sales tracking week; it was discounted to 69 cents at the iTunes and Amazon mp3 stores in that span.
"Friday" spent two weeks at No. 1 on Digital Songs in early July following the premiere of its eight-minute-plus video which features cameos from the likes of musicians Rebecca Black, Kenny G, Debbie Gibson and Hanson and actors Corey Feldman, Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, the latter two of whom star in Fox's "Glee." The clip has registered 80 million views on YouTube.
Perry ascends to Hot 100 history by displacing LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, after the song spent six weeks at No. 1. The track dips to No. 2, slipping 1-2 on Digital Songs (160,000, down 13%) and holding at No. 2 on Radio Songs (142 million, down 3%).
At No. 3 on the Hot 100, Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger," featuringChristina Aguilera, bounds up five places with dual Digital and Airplay Gainer awards. "Jagger" swaggers 2-1 on Digital Songs (219,000, up 38%) and 32-18 on Radio Songs (47 million, 37%) following the premiere of its video Aug. 8.

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10 are Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" (3-4); Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters," featuring Bruno Mars (5-5); Lil Wayne's "How to Love" (6-6); Pitbull's "Give Me Everything," featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer (4-7); Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" (13-8) (the chart's sole title making its first top 10 appearance; it led Alternative Songs for five weeks beginning in June); Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" (7-9); and, OneRepublic's former No. 8-peaking "Good Life" (11-10).

The Celebreality Interview – So Hood
Intro text barely suffices for what you’re about to read, so I’ll be brief: unlike many of her Real Chance peers, So Hood doesn’t necessarily think Ki Ki’s elimination was racially motivated. She does, however, stand by her proclamation of being the “modern-day Martin Luther King.” And, among the many, many details of her time onCharm School and life in general that she fills in, she tells us about a fist fight she had with Brittanya that ended up on the cutting-room floor.
Note: When reading this interview, play a little game with yourself and try to pick out your favorite quote. I think you’ll have problem getting it down to just one. Since you asked, though, mine is, “I’m a real woman. Real women aren’t scared of black eyes.” Oh wait, but “I mean, who’s not out on bail? I’m out on bail! We all out on bail!” is brilliant, too…
What are your thoughts about this whole ordeal?
I thought it was a bunch of bulls***. It was a wreck from Day 1. I had a feeling when I first walked in the house that something like this was going to take place. I tried to stick it out and sure enough, come the second elimination, some bulls*** happened.
What was the problem?
Ricki does not get both sides of the story. She allowed people into her office: some she invited, some requested to go see her. Basically, snitches. I never ran to her to tell her what was going on, which I guess now I should have. But I followed by the street code: no snitching. I hate snitches. So a lot of people ran to her, and she never got Ki Ki’s side of the story. I had a weird feeling when I stepped off that bus and saw Ricki there, but I really wanted to change and I went through hell and high water to get to Charm School. Ricki’s trying to teach women to be charming, but that talk show she had was not a charming show. I have no problem with it. I love trash like that. I love all these crazy, who’s-the-father DNA-type shows. But how can she teach women to be charming?
Was there anything besides Ki Ki’s elimination that pissed you off besides the fact that Ricki didn’t talk to her before eliminating her?
Ashley and Marcia were up for elimination, too. Ashley had displayed physical violence. From Day 1, Farrah and her and all those girls were ganging up on Brittaney. They threw food at that girl. They treated her like a garbage can. She may be annoying or a porn star or whatever the hell her case is. But Ashley is a stripper. Strippers and porn stars are like cousins! Who’s Ashley to poke fun at a porn star? I used to strip. I have nothing bad to say about a porn star. I’ve never done it, but I know about that business. Marcia is a flat-out drunk. She doesn’t needCharm School, she needs AA. Marcia attempted to quit the night before, but you didn’t see that. Ki Ki wanted to be there. That right there was totally unfair and at that point, I knew that Ricki could not teach me anything. I was gonna hate her everyday after that.
It does seem that the way the Rock of Love girls treated Brittaney was similar to the way the Real Chancegirls treated Bubbles. Can you see that?
No! I see a difference. No one put their hands on Bubbles. Bubbles, she’s an interesting individual. I will give her that. We did not treat her like they treated Brittaney. If anyone says that, point ‘em out, because I’m whipping they ass, for real. I had issues with Bubbles from Real Chance because she said she was there for money. From that point, I had it out for her, because we were there looking for love. It’s OK to be at Charm School looking for money if you’re trying to make some sort of change.
The scenes of you screaming at Bubbles seem harsh.
Bubbles plays the victim role and a lot of people don’t know that. Lala pointed that out. Bubbles is very conniving, very sneaky. I’m starting to think she’s not as dumb as she comes off to be. I think she knows what she needs to do to get under people’s skin and then come off as the victim.
So it’s strategy?
It’s strategy, and all our dumb asses fell for it. But I got bigger fish to fry. I’m not even thinking about Bubbles. I wish her the best of luck with everything.
In the interviews shown around your departure, it seemed that you considered your leaving to be almost a political move.
Absolutely. I was told if you don’t stand for anything, you’ll fall for everything. You have to stand for something in life. I’m a fun girl, I’m a party girl. I like to take shots of whatever, but when the party’s over, and you’re trying to change…I gave up a lot of things to go to Charm School. My son went to live with his dad. I put a lot on the line. I really did make an attempt to change. I changed my outer appearance. I changed my inner appearance. I did all of that and I felt like I was in a race I couldn’t win with Ricki. She has no idea. I think people need to remember that if you’re in a situation and you feel like you don’t like it, get out of that situation. I wouldn’t have been comfortable being in that house knowing what happened, knowing that I could be on the chopping block for some he say/she say and that I wouldn’t be able to get my word across. ‘Cause if it got to that point? All f*** hell woulda went crazy. I probably would have lost my mind, so it was better that I removed myself from the situation completely. Like I said, I am the ’09 version of Dr. Martin Luther King.
That’s quite a comparison.
I am! I know everybody’s laughing, but I feel like ’09 is the year for change. That’s all our president talks about is change, change, change. And I’m following by that motto. I’m out here trying to put some ideas together to pitch. I think So Hood needs her version of Charm School. There’s a lot out here that I can teach. I get all these ideas from my fans. I live for them. So Hood belongs to the fans.
So instead of organizing marches, modern-day Martin pitches reality shows?
Yes! But it will still be fun and creative, but at the same time it will mean something. I love reality TV, but it’s getting boring. I want So Hood to put the real back in reality.
Since you weren’t there when everyone sat down with Ricki to discuss Ki Ki’s elimination, I’m curious what your take on the race question was. Do you think Ki Ki’s elimination had anything to do with race?
I’m not gonna play that whole black/white card. I do think it was sided. Racial? Maybe somewhat. Maybe Ricki just had an issue with Ki Ki. She has a very strong attitude. If you didn’t know her, you would have an issue with her, too. I’m not playing the race card, but I do think it was some bulls***.
It’s interesting that you’re unwilling to do so, when a few of the other Real Chance girls did state that they thought race was a factor.
There’s so many other screwed up things Ricki did that the race card is the littlest of all the screw-ups. People were so afraid to talk to her or speak out against her because she was the head of the house or the teacher or whatever you want to call it, but we all were thinking it. We were all thinking that she did not belong there.
Are you glad you left?
I would do the same thing all over again. I do not regret a thing. I cried when I watched it because I did want that $100,000. But I’m trying other avenues now so that I can be successful. So that I can open up my shoe store. See, they never aired stuff like that. They never showed what So Hood was gonna do with the money. I wanted to open a women’s shoe store and invest in my acting career because it takes money to make money and these flights to get to these auditions are very expensive. But the main goal was the shoe store because I don’t want to be in the strip club all my life. I make good money working at the club, but I don’t always want to do that. I’m getting old, my knees are getting bad. Those heels are killing my feet. Also, I’m working on a rap album. It’s really true. I think music is motivation. Music takes you to another level. I want to communicate with people the best way I can. I’m doing it on Facebook and Twitter and MySpace and YouTube and the blogs, but it’s not enough. I need to communicate with young ladies out there to tell ‘em, you don’t need to take this s*** from no man, no headmistress, no producer, no nobody.
So, wait, are you still dancing?
This past weekend, I was at my old club, just for the weekend to see if I still had it. A few fans saw me, but it was just for the weekend. I don’t think I’m gonna make a career out of it again.
What did you think of Marcia calling you “So Ho?”
I was offended because she talked to me the whole time. She asked me for advice, she wanted to get some hood in her, and yet, she couldn’t get my name right. That’s the most disrespectful thing you can do to a person when you have been smiling up in their face. She was drunk. Charm School is a joke for her. Send her toCelebrity Rehab.
Bay Bay Bay tweeted about a fight between you and Brittanya. Did you get into it with her before you left?
Oh yes I did! That unstable creature is fake from head to toe. She takes those tattoos and tries to cover up them stretch marks and imperfections on her body, but I see under all of that. Brittanya and I had an issue because she was saying if anybody ever f*** with her, she would spit on them. I don’t play that s***. If you’re looking to commit suicide, that’s the best way to do it, because I will f***ing kill you if you ever spit on me. I don’t know what barn her ass was raised in if she thinks spitting on someone is OK. She kept talking about she’s got this case, she’s got this case. Well, I wanted to know more about this case. It can’t be nothing major. She’s talking about out on bail. It’s probably a few hundred dollars. I mean, who’s not out on bail? I’m out on bail! We all out on bail! I’m out on bail, too, but it’s a minor charge. She wants to take something so minor and play like it’s so big. She’s playing this tough-guy role, and I told her, “If I ever leave out these doors, you better look out.” When I was leaving, after I said, “F*** Charm School,” she was the first person I saw, and I slapped the f*** out of her, and I threw a drink on Marcia. I wanted to show them how it felt to be treated like a garbage can. I gave them a taste of their own medicine, but I don’t spit on people. That’s horrible. That’s nasty. There’s f***in’ swine flu going around here and you’re spitting on people. So, I tried to slap those piercings out of her face.
So what did she do in response?
She did not hit me back. She just went on barking at the mouth like she always does. If you didn’t know any better, you might think she’s actually tough, but I’m here to prove that she’s not. I know that was crazy, but hey, I told her. Of course, in my school, I wouldn’t teach anyone to display violence. But I was willing to go to jail for that one.
You compare yourself to Martin Luther King Jr., but you understand that he preached nonviolence, right?
That moment I was Malcolm X! But all the rest of the time I was Martin Luther King. After I was at the club this weekend, I actually got into a fight. I’m talking to you with a black eye right now.
Was it worth it?
Yeah, it definitely was. I got my first black eye. It’s a weird feeling. I guess I officially got my street cred.
You’re walking around with a black eye, though.
I had to show ‘em what I was really about. I was actually caught off guard. A fan tried to rob me. They tried to take my purse and my shoes. I’m a real woman. Real women aren’t scared of black eyes.
You were talking to your boyfriend on the show. Since you told me before that were having trouble finding a man, that’s good, right? Things are looking up in that aspect of your life?
